After decades of warning, climate change is no longer a problem for the distant future. Its impacts are seen and felt today. The challenge now is to act quickly to stop global warming from worsening and to adapt to a “new normal” under climate change. Countries around the world have taken varied approaches to decarbonizing. Yet today the global energy system relies on fossil fuels for nearly 85 percent of its supplies, virtually the same level as in 1990. As the costs of climate change mount, what are the most effective ways to confront climate change and scale clean energy? How can we transition to a cleaner world while keeping energy affordable to support economic growth?

Join Michael Greenstone and Amir Jina for a discussion of these critical issues. This Harper Lecture will be moderated by Amy Harder, a columnist at Axios and vice president of publishing at Breakthrough Energy, founded in 2015 by Bill Gates and a coalition of private investors concerned about the impacts of accelerating climate change.
